Reaching Utrecht and the NWERC

How to get to Utrecht

Utrecht is in the middle of the Netherlands and easy to reach from all directions.

By train

International trains: there are many international trains connecting the Netherlands to the rest of Europe. Some stop at Utrecht Central Station: there is a direct ICE express train connection from Cologne and Düsseldorf which runs frequently. Alternatively, change for Utrecht at Rotterdam (from the south) or at Amersfoort (from the east), where direct, frequent connections to Utrecht are available.

Do not buy train tickets on the train, this will result in a € 35 fine above the ticketprice. Buy the ticket at the vending machines instead or at a ticket office on any major station.

See the Dutch railways website for more details.

By plane

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has a good connection to Utrecht Central Station; it takes only half an hour by a frequent direct train.

Smaller airports are Rotterdam Airport and Eindhoven Airport; Rotterdam and Eindhoven are also connected by direct train to Utrecht Central, which takes about one hour.

Do not buy train tickets on the train, this will result in a € 35 fine above the ticketprice. Buy the ticket at the vending machines instead.

By automobile

Utrecht is surrounded by highways. However, do not try to enter the city centre by car, this is highly discouraged both in logistics and price.
